In a recent post, I talked all about the meaning behind rainbow jewelry. Now that we're well on our way to a pot of gold, it's time to think about the style considerations and how to wear rainbow rings.
For instance, how can you mix multicolored pieces into a minimalist ring stack? Does rainbow jewelry work with a monochromatic wardrobe? Or is this ring trend all about color?
Personally, I prefer a more limited color palette but am still in love with the rainbow ring look, in part because it's just so versatile!
Styling a rainbow gemstone ring might seem like a tricky thing to master, but it’s actually pretty straightforward. The only rule is this: anything goes! Whether you want yours to be a sentimental ring, statement ring, or stacking ring, there are plenty of ways to get your hands on this magical and versatile trend.
Let's take a look at 14 ideas for how to wear rainbow rings. Here you’ll find styling ideas and advice for every style – no matter how comfortable you are wearing ROYGBIV brights.
1. With minimalist gold jewelry
Multicolor jewels play well with minimalist pieces. Here’s what one minimalist writer for Who What Wear said: “I wasn't sure how this new color scheme would fit in, but to my surprise, it was the best addition I ever made to my jewelry collection.” One bright band of colorful gemstones can stand out brilliantly against an array of slender yellow gold bands or a mixed metal ring stack.

2. With white diamonds
If you really want to bring out the iridescent twinkle in your rainbow ring, style it alongside white diamonds. This could mean a set of diamond wedding rings or a slender stack of diamond stacking rings. A rainbow eternity ring will look especially vibrant when paired with one or two diamond eternity bands in a similar style.
3. With more colored gemstones
On the flip side, if you’re already heading into technicolor territory, why limit yourself? Try pairing different colored gemstone rings and stacking bands with one rainbow ring to emphasize your favorite hues. Or, go all-out and layer on a handful (or two!) of rainbow gem-encrusted sparklers.
4. As a collection of colorful rings
You don’t need just one ring to participate in the rainbow jewelry trend. Instead, create a rainbow-themed ring stack with single-color eternity bands, enamel-inlay rings, and other stackable pieces. Line them up in the true rainbow order or mix and match the colors for your own unique take on the rainbow jewelry trend.

5. With a monochromatic outfit
If you’ve perfected a sleek, chic capsule wardrobe with neutral hues and timeless pieces, a playful rainbow gemstone ring is a fun way to inject some variety and inspiration into your getting-ready routine. Marie Claire recommends it for everything from your jeans-and-tee look to your little black dress. And if you’re worried about a rainbow sparkler standing out too much, Diamonds in the Library notes that because rainbow jewelry features so many colors, it actually becomes its own sort of neutral.
6. With bright, colorful clothes
You might think your only option is to stick to a monochromatic palette with your multicolored rainbow stone rings – but why not try just the opposite? Elite Daily recommends going the Iris Apfel route with layers of bright colors and bold patterns for a wild, wonderful, and one-of-a-kind outfit.

7. As a stacking ring
Slipping on a rainbow stacking ring is a great way to sneak the rainbow jewelry trend into your everyday accessorizing. You could opt for a skinny rainbow pavé band or a rainbow baguette ring to stick with a more slender profile. But a chunkier rainbow emerald cut ring can be stacked just as successfully with other bands in varying thicknesses. Either way, sandwich your rainbow ring between textured yellow gold or white gold bands to complete the look.
8. As a statement ring
Not into dainty jewelry? Never fear! If you love jewels that stand out, you'll probably have no trouble deciding how to wear rainbow rings if you opt for a real statement piece. Choose a chunky gold rainbow ring in a cigar band style or a substantial rainbow emerald cut ring instead. These types of rings allow more space for the dazzling gemstone colors to shine and will really make an impact.
9. As an engagement ring
Do all the colors of the rainbow signify something meaningful to you and your loved one? If so, a rainbow engagement ring could be just the type of alternative engagement ring you’re looking for. Try a rainbow halo ring featuring a neutral center stone like a white diamond, pale pink morganite, or gleaming moonstone.
10. As an anniversary band
Eternity bands featuring a continuous line of stones are a traditional choice of jewelry for marking an anniversary. Not only do these rings twinkles beautifully from all angles but they also symbolize never-ending love. Brighten up your next milestone marker with a rainbow eternity band and add an extra layer of meaning to this beloved ring style.
11. In a signet ring style
A gem-encrusted signet ring set with all the colors of the spectrum adds a playful spin on this everyday jewelry box essential. You can choose from rainbow signet rings where the whole face is covered in colorful gems as well as more understated versions with the stones spaced out in a halo or arc.
12. As a cocktail ring
Rainbow rings can express self-love just as well as they can express love between two partners. A rainbow halo ring featuring a moonstone or opal in the center can make an eye-catching cocktail ring or “right-hand ring,” although it can also be worn on your left hand – your choice! Pair it with your favorite going-out look and raise a glass to colorful, just-for-fun jewelry!
13. In an alternate color palette
With the rainbow jewelry trend, you don’t need to be limited by the ROYGBIV color sequence you learned as a kid. Try finding something that more closely fits your personal style, like an ombré ring that transitions from light to dark or slides through the color scale from green to blue to purple. You can also opt for rainbow-inspired rings in pretty pastels as well as remixed rainbow rings that feature saturated shades out of order, like yellow, magenta, bright green, and bold blue.
14. Featuring a secret message
This might just be my all-time favorite way to embrace the rainbow jewelry trend. You can combine an array of multicolored gemstones into an acrostic ring that contains a secret word or message. In this style, the first letter of each gemstone helps spell out a word. So, a ring with amethyst, diamond, opal, ruby, and emerald would spell out ADORE. How sweet is that?! The most popular acrostic ring styles from the Georgian era spell out DEAREST and REGARDS (can you guess which gemstones they'd use?) but you can also have a custom piece made to spell out the name of a loved one, a special place, or anything else you can think of!
