How Will You Kick off Your Most Creative Year Yet?
5 ways to focus your creative energy when you’ve got one-on-one support.
Welcome (or welcome back!) to Multifaceted. I’m Jess Barker – here to help multi-passionate creatives overcome “idea overwhelm” and carve out a path to the most fulfilling and authentic creative future possible. ✨
Hi, all – and Happy New Year!
Now that we’re halfway into January (where does the time go??), many of us are starting to take a more serious look at the year ahead.
Not in a halfhearted, hyped-up New Year’s resolution way, but something more along these lines:
Oh gosh, if I don’t get moving on my big dreams soon, another year will pass me by and I’ll still be stuck in the same spot.
Or:
Wow, I have no idea how I’ll be able to fit everything in. There’s SO much I want to accomplish in the next year, but I can never seem to find the time.
Or even:
I made a lot of great progress this past year, but now I’m not really sure what’s next for me. I don’t want to lose my momentum, but I’m not sure where to go from here.
It’s important to take note when we’ve been spinning our wheels or avoiding our work – or when we’ve been feeling lost or scattered without a clear solution in sight. These are usually good signs that it’s time to mix things up.
When we take action and change our course, those fears about losing touch with our creativity or never fulfilling our potential don’t have a chance to come true.
If you’ve been struggling to find direction, balance, and fulfillment in your creative life, one-on-one coaching may be just what you need to get back on track.
Now, you know I’m a little biased because I kicked off a multi-passionate creativity coaching program last year.
But whether you’re interested in working with me or someone else who is more on your wavelength, I wanted to shed some light on the types of goals you can achieve with a coach by your side.
In a broad sense, creativity coaching is designed to bring you closer to your purpose, your path, and your dream creative life.
But to get more specific about it, let’s take a look at five overarching challenges you can tackle through creativity coaching:
1. Find direction
Feeling lost? A creativity coach can help you figure out your most important goals and then map out a clear path to achieving them – one that doesn’t leave your other creative interests in the dust.
Coaching can help you:
Reduce the overwhelming feeling of facing too many possibilities.
Confidently make decisions that align with your creative purpose.
Set short-term and long-term goals for your creative journey.
Lean into your creative side while navigating a major transition.
Design a work-life plan that provides balance and flexibility.
2. Discover your purpose
It’s great to have a lot of interests, but it’s even better when you know what you’re meant to be doing – and why.
One-on-one support can empower you to:
Clarify your core passions and interests.
Define your creative “why.”
Understand how meaning and purpose play a role in your creative life.
Separate your own goals and desires from outside influences.
Explore the impact of your work on others.
3. Get unstuck and get started
Creative blocks are tough, but they don’t have to hold you back. Whether you're starting a new project or you need help making progress on an existing one, coaching can keep you moving forward.
It’s a great way to:
Understand what’s standing in the way between you and your creative potential.
Overcome resistance, creative blocks, and other obstacles.
Create the structures and plans you need to achieve your goals.
Build motivation and make progress on your projects.
Develop strategies for maintaining focus and productivity.
Learn techniques to manage stress and avoid burnout.
4. Amplify your voice
Ready to start creating and sharing your most authentic work yet? Each session can be tailored to help you:
Embrace your creative voice and point of view.
Define and develop your cross-disciplinary artistic style.
Write bios and creative labels that align with your creative identity and journey.
Build the confidence to put yourself out there.
Fine-tune your personal brand, portfolio, or website to attract desirable opportunities.
Find impactful ways to share your work.
5. Design a creative life you love
Creative fulfillment isn’t all about having a fancy career; you need a well-balanced life that allows your many creative sides to thrive. Coaching can help you find the right mix of all your passions and carve out the time and resources you need to pursue them.
Get ready to:
Reclaim time in your busy schedule for passion projects.
Prioritize financial stability, so you can create freely and without fear.
Decide what to pursue as a paid job vs. passion project, or a hobby vs. side hustle.
Establish boundaries that help protect your essential creative resources.
Explore ways to achieve your creative and financial goals through full-time work, part-time work, freelance gigs, entrepreneurship, passion projects, and hobbies.
We all have the power to break free from conventions. We all have the potential to carve out our own weirdly, wonderfully unique creative paths.
If you long for transformation, it won’t be easy, but it’s fully within reach. And, while only you can make the necessary changes, you don’t have to tough it out on your own.
Imagine having someone in your corner – someone who genuinely gets you and what you’re struggling with. A partner to guide you through each step, offering support, encouragement, and advice when you need it most. That’s what creativity coaching is all about.
As your creativity coach, my sole purpose is to help you thrive. Right from the start, I’ll tailor our one-on-one coaching sessions to your unique situation. Together, we’ll roll up our sleeves and work through whatever’s standing in the way between you and your goals.
With a clear plan in place, you’ll finally be able to make meaningful progress. No more second-guessing, no more stalled projects. Just the clarity, structure, and support you need to kick off your most creative year yet.
Now, how does that sound? A little more exciting than the usual mid-January doldrums, I’d wager.
